Ferro na Boneca
Ferro na Boneca is a side project of Marquinho Caique Laerte, revered vocalist and drummer of brazilian roots blackgaze ensemble Anal Goat Laceration. In 1997, Marquinho Caique (still taking the guise of Malum ex Nihil) felt that he had "overgrown my own music" and "needed more space to grow", as said in a interview to Pitchfork.
In 1998, Marquinho oficially left Anal Goat Laceration, and played solo drum/vocal black metal shows by himself. However, his project was mostly disliked and after two months touring in Caicó, he announced on his personal Twitter that he would "take a time from music making".
However, Marquinho met bassist João Fernando Kleber and his twin brother Kleber Fernando João in a 2001 Forró do Muído concert. Their friendship sparked, and soon they would start composing and rehearsing what would be "First Impressions of Brejinho ", their renowned EP that caught critics attention due to the unusual mix of heavy sampling, classical music and shoegaze aesthetics.
Already adopting the moniker of Ferro na Boneca (portuguese for "iron the doll"), they toured extensively through Caicó, where they were warmly received. After their russian-european tour in 2002, the band declared they would settle down in Siberia to start recording new material.
In 2003, they went on a secret tour in Latvia, and played "Dievs, svētī Latviju!", a so far unreleased song from their upcoming album. The song was incredibly succesful, to the point of Latvia adopting it as their official anthem. In 2006, they released a mixtape called "Excaicoense", mixing noise and aggressive rap and hip hop. Unfortunately, this release was a critical failure, and the lack of pressed copies has spawned many fake bootlegs. Read more on Last.fm.
